![]() Smooth out with a trowel and feather into the existing wall. Push a mix of hydrated lime and sand into the keys as a scratch coat, then when that cures spread over that with lime gauged with plaster of paris (about 30/70 plaster of paris/lime). The MSDS sheets for plaster weld pretty much state that its a. The real way would be to remove all crumbling, weak plaster, clean the lath with water, then apply some weld crete or plaster weld all over the lath. We have one gallon of plaster weld, and Im looking for an alternative for the painted walls. Do people use plaster weld and something else? Not sure what the traditional method is? I'm wondering what people use to bind the loose-ish plaster to the lath, other than Big Wally's? I eventually need to do this to the whole house and that product seems really expensive. Stuff I've done in the past has been pretty superficial, this seems more structural as the ceiling moves a little bit near where it meets the wall. This job is just little bit more in depth than my previous repairs. Any thoughts on this?Ĭorsetière wrote:Yeah I have all the basic tools and supplies, I've used them for the previous repairs I've done. I need to have the room done by the end of the month. I read a bit about "Big Wally's Plaster Magic" and it seems like it might be a good solution for this job because time is a concern. I'm a bit nervous about poking that corner of the ceiling and if I need to drill to attach the plaster, can that even be done around a chimney? ![]() What method do you guys recommend and do you have any tips to keep me from doing more damage. So since some of these spots are not attached to the lathe any longer, I guess I need to reattach them. ![]() Part of the plaster wall juts out higher than the other This spot is really messy! It is the site of a really crappy repair. When I touch the ceiling very close to the chimney, it feel a little loose and the plaster of the ceiling that meets the wall there is cracked. The trouble spots are predictably around the chimney. Most of it is super easy just little hairline cracks but there are a few spots that are a bit beyond my previous experiences with plaster repair. So now I am working on the plaster repair. So I finally got the ceiling clean of 1970's spackle? stucco? (what do you call this abomination?). I saw Ober51's post below mine on superficial repairs, but how do you handle something a little bit more complicated.
